The former supply house is located below the name-giving castle ruins, surrounded by vines and a panoramic view of the Alps. The turquoise-green shores of Lake Kaltern (the less touristy one!) with its private bathing area, striped parasol nostalgia and the rustle of palm trees are right outside the door.
Katharina Sparer’s parents had managed the guesthouse for four decades before the young owner acquired the 500-year-old listed building and, together with her partner and the architect Christina Biasi von Berg (Biquadra office), transformed it into a stylish, laid-back hotel with twelve rooms and a restaurant. Since then, a contemporary breeze has been blowing behind the proud castle-like façade.
‘Simplicity and luxury are no contradictions,’ emphasises the architect, who has given each of the rooms an unmistakable character made up of old peasant furniture with brightly coloured ornaments, contemporary design and lots of wood. A striking combination of authenticity, well-composed architecture and a personal touch.
The new Terrazza restaurant was realised in a simple timber construction. A tribute to local materials and craftsmanship.
Not only do you have a view of the lake from every room, but also from the restaurant’s terrazza, where breakfast and dinner are served in good weather. Surfboards and boats are also available at the hotel’s own bathing area with boathouse, trust bar, yoga room and sauna hut.
For cooler days, the cosy wine lounge in the vaults with the adjoining Finnish sauna is the perfect place to unwind. Accompanied by the sound of the vintage turntable. A house full of special features, whose hospitality will resonate for a long time.
