Passa Tempo

Bed & Breakfast Passa Tempo

A holiday home called Passa Tempo evokes a sense of slowing down. Especially in Le Marche, one of Italy’s lesser-known regions. Here, white sandy bays, picturesque limestone cliffs and small medieval towns perched on hills literally invite you to passatempo, to unwind. Not far from the village of the same name, in the middle of nowhere and yet centrally located between Ancona and Macerata, lies the family-run bed & breakfast, which welcomes its guests with three double rooms and unusual architecture. The exterior of the newly built house is clearly modelled on the tradition of regional farmhouses.

Inside, the typical layout of a stable at ground level, a living area on the first floor and a final pitched roof is disrupted and given a new structure: The volume of the centre living area is doubled, rotated vertically and placed to the left and right. The area of the original stable is also moved from the horizontal to the vertical and forms a high, open space with large glass fronts, which creates different levels and connections through huge, sculptural staircases and merging communal areas. The striking and sweeping staircase, which winds upwards in the centre of the space like a work of art, leads to the two further floors, which also house the guest rooms.

The overall design concept is minimalist, clear and modern, with a few traditional details. The materials are essentially reduced to steel, concrete, glass and wood – from the staircase to the huge, open-plan common room on the ground floor and the three double bedrooms, each with its own bathroom. All around is the beautiful, contemplative landscape, which plays a key role in the architectural staging.

In the morning, guests can enjoy a lovingly prepared, refined regional breakfast at the long dining table, which extends directly into the kitchen. In the centre of the room, a swing provides some good vibes, the stove area, which has been lowered a step, creates campfire moments with a floating fireplace and in the corner of the living room, visitors can once again enjoy a fantastic view of the landscape. Accompanied by warm lighting moods, both inside and out. In addition to the extensive open spaces around the house, there is also a pool with a view of the vineyards. Pure peace and nature.

What to do

Hiking, gravel and road biking, swimming and bathing in the pool or the sea (the coast is about 25 minutes away), wine tasting in the various wineries in the area, numerous restaurants with excellent local cuisine (about 10 minutes away), sightseeing such as the cathedral in Loreto, the grotto of Frasassi or the Renaissance city of Urbino, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, or excursions to Ancona, Macerata and one of the other towns and medieval villages worth seeing in the Marche region

Why we like this house

Dolce Vita meets Zen - a place that combines Italian flair, minimalist design, tranquillity and enjoyment under one roof. The clear highlight: climbing the stairs.
