The ultimate summer resort. The small village of Possenhofen lies directly on Lake Starnberg. A rural idyll with a heavenly swimming beach, aptly named “Paradise”, and a majestic history. After all, Empress Sisi spent her childhood here. The Remise Possenhofen, which was built in 1890 as the horse stable and coach house of the Villa Fischer for the duke’s personal physician, also dates from this time. A few years ago, the building was completely renovated in accordance with heritage preservation regulations and was converted into three modern and individually furnished holiday apartments for two people each.
The Seezimmer [Lake Suite], painted deep blue, on the ground floor is the largest apartment in the house. In addition to the white-tiled kitchen with a view of the landscape and the south-facing sun terrace, it offers its guests a comfortable bedroom, a deep bathroom with exquisite wallpaper with fish motifs and a separate dressing room. The Bergzimmer and the Waldzimmer [Mountain and Forest suites] on the upper floor are accessible via an external staircase. Thanks to their shared vestibule, both apartments can also be rented as one unit and share the pretty gravelled courtyard for sitting outside on sunny spring days and balmy summer evenings.
Painted in warm grey, the Bergzimmer opens up to a light-filled loft with an open roof space, where everything and everyone comes together. From the kitchen to the large dining table to the hosts’ vinyl collection and favourite books.
Then there is the sage-green Waldzimmer, where tranquillity reigns. It also has an open roof truss, a small kitchen block that doubles as a dining table and workplace, a genuine Tölz farm cupboard and a typewriter from the 60s, with plenty of paper and fresh ribbon to capture the flow of thoughts.
What to do
In summer, the " Paradise " swimming beach awaits you directly below the Remise for stand-up paddling, windsurfing, boating, sailing; cycling around the lake (the Remise has bicycles); walking, hiking or jogging through the Possenhofen Forest or the Maising Gorge; a visit to Possenhofen Castle, where Empress Sisi spent her youth, or the Sisi Museum at Possenhofen railway station; an excursion to the Buchheim Museum of the Imagination or to Munich (the S-Bahn station is only 200 m away and the journey takes approx. 30 minutes); in winter skiing in Garmisch and Mittenwald.

Owner
Katrein and Gregor Wöltje live as a colourful patchwork family with seven children and two cats in the Villa Fischer in Possenhofen on Lake Starnberg. In 2015, they transformed the historic coach house next to their home into a sustainable holiday home with three apartments. Although they love the Bavarian mountains on their doorstep, they like to travel the world, get inspired and discover new places to stay, like the Agger Farmhouse in Denmark.

One Comment
