Schleiferei zwei

Apartment Schleiferei zwei

Schleiferei Zwei is located in the heart of the protected Harz National Park, directly on the banks of the Sieber stream, which meanders through the valley landscape. It is hard to imagine today that the industrial monument, built in 1896, was an abandoned and dilapidated lost place for a long time. Rediscovered a few years ago, the building stock of the former grinding shop has been revitalised and transformed into five spacious flats and a holiday home in harmony with heritage protection and modern architecture.

In addition to the historical charm of the listed building, it was also possible to preserve and restore its characteristic appearance. Inside, the large, loft-like rooms with their high ceilings, unplastered walls, exposed steel structures and exposed screed still tell of the original use – especially in the eight-metre-high turbine hall. To break up the industrial feel, the original details were combined with contemporary design and modern art in bright colours.

Each of the six generously designed and comfortably furnished accommodations interprets the existing building in an individual way and offers space for two, four or six people. Whether on the ground floor or first floor, with a private terrace overlooking the garden or facing the river and forest, as a couple or with the whole family – you’ll be spoilt for choice.

The spectacular, two-storey loft in the former turbine hall is the largest holiday flat at 200 m². In addition to a spacious living, cooking and dining area, it has a further lounge area on the open gallery and three double bedrooms. The independent Kesselhaus (former powerhouse) also extends over two airy, lofty levels and offers plenty of space even for a couple’s getaway. The two larger accommodations can also be hired for workshops, seminars, retreats or exhibitions.

All apartements are furnished with natural materials such as wood, felt and leather as well as a cosy combination of design classics, vintage finds and recycled or upcycled furniture. This sustainable aspect of preservation and reinterpretation runs through the entire ensemble and concept.

What to do

Hiking (the Harz Nature Park is one of the most biodiverse regions in Germany), biking and mountain biking, forest bathing, reading and relaxing, swimming in the local outdoor pool in Herzberg am Harz, various cultural and culinary offerings in the region, excursions to UNESCO World Heritage Sites, such as the Upper Harz Water Management with the Rammelsberg mine or the historic centre of Goslar

Why we like this house

A charming, finely polished industrial monument in pure nature, where you can switch off your turbines and find peace and quiet again.

This house is great for

Families, couples, friends, architecture and nature enthusiasts. Dogs are possible in some units on request.

Sustainability

Preservation of the historic building fabric, refurbishment with KfW-compliant thermal insulation, heat pump, e-charging station for e-bikes is available, a charging station for cars is planned, public transport: by train to Herzberg am Harz, then continue by bus to Sieber
